Welcome to the Saigon Ultimate Club! |
"What's Ultimate?" Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact, fast-paced sport that combines some of the most exciting elements of other popular sports – the passing and flow of soccer (football), the jumping and pivoting of basketball, and the long “touchdown” catches of American football – resulting in a sport that is truly one of a kind.
Ultimate not only provides great exercise, but is also easy to learn, allowing beginners the chance to get involved from the very start. Best of all is the social aspect of Ultimate Frisbee. Guys and girls play together on the same team, resulting in a fun, relaxed atmosphere where long-lasting friendships are readily developed. So what are you waiting for? Come join us and see for yourself!

Congrats to the RMIT Ultimate Club for hosting a great one day hat tournament on August 9, 2008. With players from SUC and RUC filling out the ranks, four teams were formed to compete for the championship. After a tightly contested round robin, the tournament culminated in an exciting finals match between teams "Blue Love" and "Shifu". After trailing at the half, "Blue Love" pulled away to victory to claim the coveted RMIT cup. Photos are online here. |

Vietnam Ultimate at Singapore Open 2007 |
For the first time ever, Vietnam Ultimate sent two teams to compete in
Singapore. Though neither team walked away with a trophy, the
experience was a definite success for both teams and a step forward in
the growth of Vietnam Ultimate.
In the Open division, Vudoo compiled a 4-2 record and finished a close
second behind the local favorite, Freakshow. The team was comprised of
a handful of talented players from SUC (Aaron, Tom, Lester, Jeigh,
Jimmy, David, and Mouse) and HUC (Jonathan, Andrew, Corey, Benny, Alex, Son, and Tu), as well as one Vietnam alumnus in Afghanistan
(Andrew). Similar to the story in Bali, Vudoo started strong, leading
for most of the first half. In the second half, however, Vudoo lost a
few players (due to early return flights) and started to run out of
gas, while Freakshow found their rhythm to pull away for a 15-10
victory.
Meanwhile, the RMIT student team played exceptionally well in the
Mixed division. This was a pure "rookie" team, with 17 of the 20
players competing in their first tournament. While their record was
a modest 2-4, this could have just as easily been 4-2 but for two
close losses to teams from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. The students
continually raised their level of play throughout the tournament, and
are hungry to prove themselves again next year.

Vudoo Places 2nd at Bali Nusantara Cup 2007 |
Forged under the intense Balinese sun, an all-star coalition of HUC'ers and SUC'ers (with reinforcements from Hong Kong, Shanghai and Perth) came together to form Team VUDOO (the Vietnam Ultimate Defense Offense Organization!). Competing in the 8th Annual Nusantara Cup in Bali, Vudoo started the tournament strong, racking up an undefeated record of 5-0 in pool play.
In the semi-finals round against Shiok, Vudoo was trailing the Singaporean squad 7-8 at half-time but was able to rally to victory with a final score of 9-8. Vudoo played Freakshow in the finals. After Vudoo jumped out to a 6-3 lead, Freakshow stormed back with 10 unanswered points. After over two hours of play and with daylight winding down, Freakshow won the Nusantara Cup with a final score of 15-10.
 Team Vudoo in Bali
Capturing a 2nd place finish on the fields, 1st place in the boat race, Female MVP (yay Mel!) and with a full 7 on the line still standing/swimming at 7am the morning after, Vudoo turned in an outstanding debut performance in Bali. Stick 'em, stick 'em, VUDOO!
