| Vietnam Ultimate Debuts at Singapore Open 2005 |
The Singapore Open, Asia's largest ultimate frisbee event, was held in Singapore from September 17-18, with 24 teams from across Asia-Pacific participating in the tournament. UFOS (Ultimate Frisbee of Saigon) and HUC (Hanoi Ultimate Club) joined forces to form a national team to represent Vietnam in the tournament, marking the first time that a Vietnamese team has ever participated in an international ultimate competition.
![]() Vietnam Ultimate at Singapore Open 2005 Team Vietnam earned three convincing victories against lower-ranked teams from Bangkok, Malaysia, and Singapore, while playing competitively against higher-ranked teams from Korea and Taiwan. Overall, Vietnam posted a 3-4 record and defended its initial seeding of 14. Vietnam made a positive impression in its debut performance, with several highlights: - Team Vietnam won the Spirit Award and S$500 in vouchers for a team dinner - Team captain David Jensen was selected as one of the tournament all-stars - Vietnam's red team jersey and conical hats (non la) were by far the hottest items on the trading blocks at the tournament ![]() Vietnam Ultimate wins Spirit Award In addition, several members of team Vietnam had outstanding performances and were awarded the coveted "yellow headband".
