Sing Open Update Friday 9 September 2005

Singapore Players,

Less than one week to go!
Here is the latest information:

First of all: Yes, we are ranked 14th! In addition the organisation has changed
the format of the tournament all teams are given a chance to advance to "the
pool of the Asian elite". On Saturday we have to become first or second in our
poule of four teams in order to advance.
Our pool looks like this (=seed):
1 'Been there done that' (11) (I have no information about this team)
      2. Vietnam (14)
      3. SMU (19) (the team from the Singapore Management University)
      4. Satu Lagi (22) (a by expats dominated team from Malaysia)
First game is at 9.10 am on Saturday, which means we'll have to be at the fields
by 8.00 am.

New Fields (map attached)
The fields will be in another location: In West Coast Park (Address is 71 West
Coast Highway. Carpark 3, near McDonald's). I have been told that these are
great fields right on the coast. Bathrooms are available and we can always have
a fast food lunch ( a good experience, so you realise that it is a blessing that
Mc D. does not exist in Vietnam!).

Thursday Pick-Up
(this would be something for the people arriving on Wednesday: David, Hoa and
Aaron)
Starts at 5.30 PM There should be a good crowd out for this! Besides a bit of
relaxed ultimate, we've got two kegs of Brewerkz Golden Ale ready to roll onto
the field at 6pm. To get to the field take a taxi (S$5, 7mins from hotels) and
tell the driver Riverside Point on Merchant Road. As you're pulling up to the
building, you'll see the field on the left. At the taxi stand, walk through to
the river, go left and you'll hit the field at the far end of Brewerkz. You can
also take the MRT. Get on the Northeast Line and get off at the Clarke Quay
station. Exit the station onto Merchant Road. Turn right and walk down about
500m. You'll see the field on the right once you get past the building
(Riverside Point). It's an open field, so you can go earlier to throw if you
want.
Friday morning practise
We are planning to practise on Friday morning! All people who are already in
Sing are expected to participate (that is all the Hanoi players and David, Hoa
and Aaron and perhaps some more from Saigon). We have a team meeting at 8.30 am
in the hostel and afterwards we'll travel together to the Farrer park to
practise.

Firiday registration party and trade night (maps attached)
>From 7 pm the registration party will be on. This year in combination with a
video night (they will show disc videos from Asia and around the world) and
there is a trade night. Trade night is the place to trade your shirt or other
frisbee item with someone else (in principal it is trading so no money
involved).. perhaps you can bring an old HUC shirt or the red shirt with star
etc and trade it for a cool Japanese or Western Australian ultimate shirt!

What to bring
Sportsclothes: a comfortable short (preferably black or dark color), a
hat/caps(Traditional Vietnamese Conical Hat's are very popular items....), spare
shirts, sun protecting creme and a water bottle etc.
Cleats: Make sure you bring cleats...('shoes with studs') the field might be
soft or wet and ordinary sportshoes will not be suitable! If you do not have
cleats buy them (near the old stadium of 'Nguyen Thai Hoc') or borrow them!!!

Money
For the ones sleeping in the dorm: Bring 60 USD (or 100 Sing dollar) with you in
order to pay for the Bugis Backpackers Hostel upon arrival on Thursday evening.
Other expenses airport tax in Hanoi: 14 USD, no departure tax when you leave
Singapore (that is included in your ticket) for the rest bring the money you
need to survive 5 days of playing, partying, site seeing and shopping in
Singapore.

Skills & Drills:
I attached a document (frisbee tips.doc) which David sent me about a basic drill
(the one we did some weeks ago) and some important skills.

Gifts and more
We are still looking for gifts for the teams we play. There have been some
ideas. We still have to decide.
Music on the sideline would be great... I'll bring a Vietnamese flag and the HUC
banner (if that is allowed to hang out in the police state of Singapore...). I
found some of the really hot white HUC tanktops.. 'Thu' style.. I am sure we'll
sell those easily in Singapore!

Get ready!

Cheers,

Stef(See attached file: frisbee tips.doc)(See attached file: aa Maps for Sing
