Great advice, Chris!<br><br>I've also found a Coke or two in the afternoon to be quite helpful, as it's a quick way to replace salts and calories, both!<br><br>The moral of the story is ... drink, drink, drink!<br>

cramps:</font></div>
<div><font size="2" face="Arial"></font> </div>
<div><font size="2" face="Arial">Cramps -- painful involuntary muscle contractions
-- occur when you lose electrolytes (dissolved ions) from your blood and bodily
fluids. When you run like crazy and sweat, the sweat carries with not just
water out of your body, but also dissolved potassium and sodium. Then if
you drink pure water to rehydrate, eventually your body will be short of
electrolytes and you will get cramps.</font></div>
<div><font size="2" face="Arial"></font> </div>
<div><font size="2" face="Arial">Here is a recipe for avoiding cramps:</font></div>
<div><font size="2" face="Arial"></font> </div>
<div><font size="2" face="Arial">-- For the first match of the day, drink pure water
(since most people start out with too much sodium in their bodies)</font></div>
<div><font size="2" face="Arial">-- For the rest of the day, add electrolytes to
your water, or drink some other beverage with added electrolytes. You have
a couple of choices:</font></div>
<div><font size="2" face="Arial"></font> </div>
<div><font size="2" face="Arial">1) Packets of electrolyte powder will be provided
at the tournament -- probably the same type people take when they have severe
diarrhea. If it's the medical type (similar to the Oresol that is sold in
Vietnam), mix it with your water at about half the strength indicated in the
instructions on the package.</font></div>
<div><font size="2" face="Arial">2) Mix Gatorade powder into your water.
Gatorade powder seems not to be available in Vietnam, but sometimes your
teammates from other countries might bring some. It's similar to
medical electrolyte powder, but with some sugar added for energy and a nicer
taste.</font></div>
<div><font size="2" face="Arial">3) The Revive drink sold at RMIT says it's
"isotonic" which means it contains electrolytes, though it's too sweet to drink
in large quantities.</font></div>
<div><font size="2" face="Arial"></font> </div>
<div><font size="2" face="Arial">Bananas contain a lot of potassium, which is why
they are recommended to avoid cramps. It helps to eat one for
lunch.</font></div>

for the Hat</div>
<div><br></div>
<div style="font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: times new roman,new york,times,serif;">
<div>(Vu or Nam, can you pass this on to the students)</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Hello SUCers and RMITers! Happy Holidays! I hope you guys enjoy
the wild Xmas celebrations in the city but please don't get hurt from the
crazy traffic. The Hat is only a few days away and we don't want anyone to get
hurt. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Speaking of getting hurt, please allow me to give some advice on how to
survive the tournaments:</div>
<div> </div>
<div> 1. Drink water! It's important that you do this <font style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 128);">2-3 days before</font> the tournament. Drink
more than usual to keep your muscles hydrated. And of course drink water
throughout the tournament. If you don't go to the restroom a few times a day,
you are NOT hydrated. When you are thirsty, that's a late sign. Beer isn't a
good source of water. Leave those cans for me, Brady and Mic to drink
=)</div>
<div> 2. Eat bananas. Again do this 2-3 days before (2-3 per
day). I don't like to eat them but I do this every tourney and it worked. No
cramps (great I just jinxed myself). </div>
<div> 3. You are in as good a shape as you will be for the
tourney at this time. So, <font style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 128);">DON'T</font>
go out and run like crazy on Thursday and Friday. It doesn't do any good. In
fact, rest is more important. I know there is pick up on Friday but please
take it easy. No to sprint like mad and lay out like it's the
championship game.</div>
<div> 4. PACE yourself. Sub out frequently- very 2 -3 points
or even one long point.</div>
<div> 5. Stretch before and <font style="background-color: rgb(255, 64, 64);">after</font> the games. Most people do a
good job of the before part but the after part is important in reducing the
soreness for the next day.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Spirit of the Game:</div>
<div> </div>
<div> We all know this is a great game. There isn't anything
like it. How many fast action games do you know that can be played at a
tournament level without any referees or officials? It is in the hands of
these spirited athletes with superb integrity. Therefore, play smart, play
fair and be honest with yourself, team and opponents. A few simple keys to
keep in mind:</div>
<div> 1. It's a non contact game! Period. So, no touching.
</div>
<div> 2. If you don't agree with foul call? Contest it and
do over. Done, no further arguments or funny faces. Smiles are much
better.</div>
<div> 3. And no need for silly calls just because. I've
witnessed many travel calls that had no impact on the throws (or not even a
throw yet). </div>
<div> 4. This is a Hat. It is meant to get people mixed up
and have fun. And we have guests coming to town. Most of these guys are very
experienced players. They know the rules. But if you think they're wrong, get
help from your captain and vice captain to help settle the issue. </div>
<div> 5. Don't take things personally. It will ruin the fun
for you. And do ask questions to learn the game faster.</div>
<div> 6. Have fun!</div>
<div> </div>
<div>This is from me and me only. Not the tournament director or the club...
Just trying to help people enjoy the game a little more. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Cheers,</div>
<div> </div>
